The Eyes of a Warrior

Dear Vee,

I promised myself that I would do this, but I felt like I was losing myself after the first post. I felt myself calling and texting everyone to get their opinion on the post, not realizing that I was doing the only thing that kept me from starting the blog. I want to gain nothing but for you to better understand who your mom is and has become. Dear Vee, I promise to keep writing to you. I promise to keep using this keyboard and my fingers to let you know about me.

My love, let me tell you about the first time your great grandmother has come to see you. Having her hold you and smile at you has been the best blessing that I have ever witness. Seeing her face light up at you is something that I always prayed for. When I was a young girl Vee, your Great Grandmother, got sick from an incident that happened, and I was torn. As a little girl, I realized that I could lose the people that I loved at any moment. A few months passed, and I was finally able to have a conversation with her. I told her that she needs to promise me that she will keep pushing. Keep pushing until she can at least hold my first child. I was young, Vee, and I thought about how much I needed her to continue to be there like she was when I was a little girl. I always prayed that she would teach you what she has taught me. When she first held you, my heart melted, and I wanted to cry in happiness, but it took her holding you to realize that my grandma has aged throughout the years. She is the strongest woman that I ever looked up to as a young child, and as she holds you, I can see the fight in her eyes. In the process of her holding you, I started tearing up because of how long I waited to have you. I started questioning my life and if things would have been different if I had you earlier. The more I looked at her and you, I had to accept that God has the perfect timing.

So throughout the years, I have looked many people in the eyes and try to understand their story. In 2017,  I wrote something called in the eyes of a warrior. I wrote it after meeting this guy whom I thought his life story was so inspiring. Today I look at your great grandmother in the eyes and realize that she is my female warrior. She is Haitian women who have overcome many battles, and through her eyes, I pray to continue learning through the eyes of a mighty warrior.

                                                                    "The eyes of a warrior."

The Uniqueness of a story can be told by staring someone in the eyes. The strength of an individual can be felt by the struggles they have been through, and you can tell by the way they look at you that they see life differently. You can see their passion and their needs with every blink that they take. The eyes of a warrior, the eyes that can tell you a story of the life they lived, the life they are living, and the life they want to live. The warrior is the healthy individual that has been through hell and back but refuses to give up. The eyes that when it looks at yours directly, you feel intensity flowing through your body. The eye that when it looks directly at you, you can feel the hopes of deliverance. The eyes that only belong to a mighty warrior. Many stories are meant to be told, but many stories are also meant to be discovered, and when it comes to this particular warrior, I have seen all the power and defeat through each blink.

The warrior, the man/woman that seen it all but refuse to accept how mighty the battle they fought is. The warrior who enjoys his/her lifestyle but never could understand why God chose him/her. The warrior that have faced many trials but refuse to let it defeat them. Let me tell you my perspective on the eyes of a warrior. Their eyes are small, like the compound eyes of a dragonfly. Their eyes are dark brown but glisten when it gets to the sun. Their eyes want to cry out in pain, but it refuses to feel defeated. Their eyeballs are supposed to be white, but it is red with different veins moving and forming across from it. The veins that surrender the hurt and obstacles they went through, but they each tell a story. Each line that forms tells a story of a trial that he/she may have gone through. The eyes of a warrior. The eyes that have seen it all but want to be blinded by the struggle that lead them to their current success. Those eyes tell a story that I wish I knew from the beginning to the end. These eyes have told them all, from every stone that life has thrown at them, they have captured and fought through it with hope to conquer it all.

The eyes of a warrior. The one that has the direction to live but wants to discover more. The eyes of a warrior are the one that has the most powerful stories. The eyes of a warrior are meant to be told, but the owner only tells the story to the ones that qualify. The eyes of a warrior are the ones that are full of life. I cannot tell you the story, but I do challenge you to look at the eyes of the warrior because if you can discover what I have discovered, then you have opened a chapter of life that will take you to another universe.

Nevertheless, just a reminder do not stare for too long because if you do, you might not gain your composure and get lost in what is there to discover. For every blink and every stare, smile, and appreciate every second of life, and thank God for putting you in the presence of a mighty warrior. The eyes of a warrior are the one that tells it all and have seen it all.

The eyes of a warrior are the ones that only can be seen and not explained—the eyes of a warrior.

Vee, everyone has a story and obstacles that they may have gone through. I pray that you will always understand everyone's story from an open mind and not a mind of judgment.
